Motivational Tips for the Self Employed

Motivational tips for the self employed.

Motivation Tips for the Self Employed

As the saying goes “it can be lonely at the top” especially when you are the top middle and bottom of your organisation. I have found from my experiences when mentoring self employed on motivation I get asked – Carl how do you stay so motivated – what makes you get up and go every day when it would be easier to stay in bed. This for me is a really difficult question to answer – because I don’t know what makes me the way I am. However, I have learnt that you cannot motivate someone to do anything that they do not want to do for themselves. No matter how hard you try.

I have found from discussion with many business owners that the following are often the cause of demotivation:

Top three reasons for demotivation

1. Lack of direction – if you don’t plan for what you want to achieve how can you be expected to achieve it.
2. Lack of focus – if you are unsure about what you want, how can you achieve anything?
3. Lack of confidence

Top Seven Tips for Maintaining Self Motivation.

1. Never be afraid to make mistakes, if we don’t try we will never succeed.
2. Spend at least one hour each day in developing your self – whether this is reading a management book, catching up on your industry news or just learning something new.
3. Manage your time better set yourself deadlines, plan and stick to them.
4. Take regular breaks – we all know that the human brain can focus on one task for a maximum of around 45 mins – so make sure to take a break, if you work at a desk like, me make sure to get outside at some point in the day, take a walk and exercise your brain as well as your body.
5. Get outside your comfort zone – do something different, if you use your discomfort zone to it best advantage often you will complete your best work.
6. Train yourself to complete each task you start – often you will hear business owners talking about balls in the air, or spinning many plates – try not to start to many jobs that you cannot possible finish.
7. Make a conscious choice to be happy – happy people are motivated and achieve their goals and ambitions.

Remember these great words from Albert Einstein:
Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.
